The Harry Potter Story (page 58-59)

THE HARRY POTTER STORY

The Harry Potter books are a series of seven fantasy novels by British writer J.K. Rowling.
The books depict a world of witches and wizards with the central character being
the yong wizard, Harry Potter. Most of the action takes place in the Hogwarts School
of Witchcraft and Wizardry and focuses on Harry Potter’s  struggle against the evil
wizard, Lord Voldemort. The books deal with the themes of friendship, ambition,
choice, courage, growing up, love and death.

In 1990, J.K. Rowing was on a crowded train from Manchester to London when
the idea for Harry simply walked into her head. But she took almost six years to finish
her first novel –Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone-which was publish in
the United Kingdom in July 1997. The books was renamed  Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer’s Stone for the American market. The last book –Harry Potter and the Deathly
Hallows- was released on July 2007.
Each book describes one year in Harry’s life  at Hogwarts, where he learns to use
magic and brew potions. The wizarding world in which Harry finds himself is
a collection of  hidden streets, lonely country manors and castles that remain invisible
to the large non-magical population known as “Muggles”. It is also a world
of elves and ghosts, dragons and monster, owls and flying broomsticks, a world
where the Hogwarts Exp
ress departs from Platform 93/4..
J.K. Rowling’s series of books has won many awards including the Hugo Award
for the Best Novel. The seven books released have collectively sold more than
300 million copies and been translated into ninety three languages. The last book
Deathly Hallows  alone broke sales records as the fastest-selling book ever, selling
